Tontine Ensemble

Allen Russell - violin

Molly Lieberman - viola

Patrick Reinholz - cello

Barry Paul Clark - bass

The Tontine Ensemble was founded in the spring of 2014 with the dream of playing music and getting weird. Its four current members first played together in Dave Schoepke’s basement for a Blank Radio improvised recording session and soon found themselves rehearsing regularly, exploring works by 20th and 21st century composers and experimenting with improvisation. Allen Russell, Molly Lieberman, Pat Reinholz, and Barry Paul Clark are all classically trained musicians who teach and perform regularly around the Milwaukee area and beyond.

The Tontine Ensemble has appeared in performances with Danceworks (Paleontology of a Woman and Footsteps, Shadows and Whispers) and Alverno Presents (Prince Uncovered). They have also performed as part of Milwaukee Follies, Mike Neumeyer and Friends, and the Prematurely Air-Conditioned Arts Collective. They have shared performances with JOBS, Netmoiré, Lovely Socialite Mrs. Thomas W. Phipps, and Geodes.

In September of 2014 the Tontine Ensemble was described as “a tight group” that demonstrates “their virtuosity in an expansive set of improvisations” by the Shepherd Express.

Up to date information on the Tontine Ensemble can be found on Facebook.
