Four Milwaukee Poets: Alix Anne Shaw with Annie Grizzle, Sam Pekarske & Bethany Price

Organized by Milwaukee Poet Laureate, Roberto Harrison

Annie Grizzle is a multimedia artist interested in the nonsensical intersection between the mappable and the abstract. Her aim is not to control a medium, but to create a disorienting space in which to discover and test its limits. More of her work can be found on her website: cargocollective.com/AnnieGrizzle

Sam Pekarske is a Milwaukee native that doesn’t plan on going anywhere anytime soon and it shows in her work, which deals primarily with the dynamic and crass nature of one of the nation’s more segregated cities as well as the people who can’t get enough of it. She curates the reading series Poets Read Some Stuff Someplace in Milwaukee and Short Shots at Var Gallery and her work can be found at spekarske.com and all across the internet.

Bethany Price is a poet, stylist, and creative director of MKE-based arts blog The Art Shore. She has two publications: All I Wanna Do, through pity milk press, and Terror, through Vegetarian Alcoholic Press. She models occasionally and acts sometimes, too. Check out her work at essajetticks27.wixsite.com/bethanyprice, and check out the photography series she curates - called Plush Decay - here, theartshore.com.

Alix Anne Shaw is the author of three full-length poetry collections: Rough Ground (Etruscan 2018), Dido in Winter (Persea 2014), and Undertow (Persea 2007), winner of the Lexi Rudnitsky Poetry Prize. Her poems and reviews have appeared in journals including Colorado Review, Denver Quarterly, Harvard Review, Black Warrior Review, and New American Writing. She is also a visual artist. Her sculpture, writing, and performance-based work can be viewed online at anneshaw.org and anneshaw.carbonmade.com

Milwaukee Poet Laureate, Roberto Harrison, is the author of Os (subpress, 2006), Counter Daemons (Litmus Press, 2006), bicycle (Noemi Press, 2015), culebra (Green Lantern Press, 2016), Bridge of the World (Litmus, 2017), Yaviza (Atelos, 2017), as well as of many chapbooks. He is also a visual artist.
