Alternating Currents Live: Making Sounds Musical
  Alternating Currents Live

The Christian Weber + Jon Mueller Duo

Christian Weber
Alternating Currents Live presents
Christian Weber: double bass
Jon Mueller: percussion

Sunday, November 2, 7pm

Christian Weber (born in Zürich/Switzerland) discovered of the doublebass in 1990 and began formal studies in the early 90s at the University of Music and Dramatic Arts in Graz and the Bruckner Conservatory in Linz (with Adelhard Roidinger). Since 2000 he has composed and performed music for film and theater and a wide variety of sound installations. Christian Weber has extensive touring schedule that takes him all over the world from Austria to Japan and Russia. He has performed with John Butcher, Lol Coxhill, Jason Kahn, Peter Kowald, Phil Minton, Evan Parker, Irčne Schweizer, and many other contemporary improvising musicians.

Milwaukee-based Jon Mueller has been an active drummer and percussionist since the mid-80s. Whether utilizing bombastic minimalism, dense interplay, or electroacoustic practices, his approach focuses on a physical dialog between situation and material. He has been featured on numerous recordings and has performed throughout the U.S., Japan, and Europe.

Jon Mueller
On the music of Christian Weber: "Few acoustic visionaries are able to render the details of their methodological prowess as visible as bassist Christian Weber does. His playing sounds grounded, strong-rooted, at times even soiled by a griminess that's all the more mystifying in view of the altitudes frequently reached by the Swiss artist, either as a member of some group or when performing alone." (Massimo Ricci, Bagatellen)

On the music of Jon Mueller: "Even if our dictionaries fail us and the definitions of "drummer" and "percussionist" and "guitarist" are rendered meaningless by Mueller's shifting musical usages, Mueller himself continues to do what he does best: which apparently means, simply, that he does whatever he wants, pressing up against musical—or grammatical—conventions and seeing what can be pulled out and what cannot.... Concept, with Mueller, is often where it is at. With a lesser creative talent, such a conceit would likely fall short, but with Mueller the conceptual framework of his ongoing projects only serves to deepen the intellectual possibilities inherent within. (Christian Kieffer, BLURT)
