To celebrate the words embroidered by Katherine Kuehn in the current exhibition Close Reading: Sewn Works by Katherine Kuehn, the Woodland Pattern Book Center and the Friends of Lorine Niedecker, have organized a poetry reading. Kuehn, a letterpress printer, has embroidered Lorine Niedecker’s poem Paean to Place, on an indigo-dyed scroll featured in the exhibition.

Actress Flora Coker of Milwaukee will read this poem. Poems by Nelly Sachs and Paul Celan will also be read. Kuehn has embroidered excerpts of the correspondence of Nelly Sachs to Paul Celan. Artist Kuehn will then introduce the audience to the exhibition.

In the Chazen Auditorium

Chazen Museum of Art

750 University Avenue in Madison, WI

Close Reading: Sewn Works by Katherine Kuehn opens on August 19 in the Leslie and Johanna Garfield Galleries.
