Chain of Events: Tyanna Buie

Oct. 5–Nov. 24

In this exhibition of images derived from personal photographs of school-related photography, Tyanna Buie creates a visual complication of past events through the isolation of objects from the photographs sourced. Part of What Can I Do?: Spirituality, Civic Engagement, & Artistic Practice, a series of exhibitions made possible with support from the Greater Milwaukee Foundation’s Mary L. Nohl Fund.

Tyanna Buie, a Chicago and Milwaukee native, received her BA from Western Illinois University and her MFA from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. Buie maintains a connection to the community by hosting printmaking workshops and demonstrations, and by producing public art for Healthy Neighborhood Initiatives in underserved communities in Milwaukee and Madison. She has been a visiting artist lecturer in numerous states while continuing to show her works in juried, group, and solo exhibitions at venues including the Haggerty Museum for Art, Racine Art Museum, the Milwaukee Art Museum, the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art, and the N’NAMDI Center for Contemporary Art. In 2012 Buie received a Mary L. Nohl Emerging Artist Fellowship, and in 2015 she was the recipient of the Love of Humanity Award from the Greater Milwaukee Foundation and the Joan Mitchell Foundation Painters and Sculptors Grant. Most recently, she was awarded a Kresge Artist Fellowship in the Visual Arts for 2019. She is currently living in Detroit, MI, where she is Assistant Professor/Section Chair of Printmaking at the College for Creative Studies.
