Riverwest Film & Video - Directed by Emir Cakaroz

"This documentary is about Riverwest Film & Video, which rents out DVDs and sells film equipment. It also hosts a neighborhood radio station which is open to anyone who wants to have a program. The documentary examines the regulars of the store and the radio programmers and their relationships with the place. The film is also an investigation of a space in which the public and the private merge." –Emir Cakaroz    


Director Biography

Emir Cakaroz is a Turkish documentary filmmaker who lives in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He received his BA and MA degrees in Cinema and Television, at Anadolu University, in Turkey. He also holds an MFA degree from the Film Department at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. His award-winning films have screened all around the world, including the International Golden Orange Film Festival in Turkey and Short Film Corner in Cannes Film Festival in France. Emir's most recent documentary films are based on observation and direct interaction with his subjects. He believes that documentary films are not just a platform for a filmmaker's observations; they are an arena where the filmmaker and the subjects come together, communicate, and negotiate. Emir teaches documentary filmmaking at the Film Department of UW-Milwaukee and Lake Forest College.
