Set 1: Ben Malone

Ben Malone is a trombonist, composer and improviser. In 2020 he graduated from UW–Parkside, and has been playing in and around Milwaukee. Ben has a passion for composition, and where improvisation and composition meet.

Set 2: Michael Bettine / GONGTOPIA

Michael Bettine is a German-born American percussionist whose multifaceted career moves beyond musical classification. He has been playing both improvised and composed percussion music for over 50 years. His current interest is time and how sound can manipulate our perception of it. To that end, he has been deeply studying the ideas that 12th century Japanese Zen Master Dogen has written on time in his masterwork, the Shõbõgenzõ Uji.

Michael’s latest project, PURE LAND, is a metaphorical journey through birth, life, death, and re-birth in the Pure Land of the Buddha of Infinite Light and Life, Amithaba.
