Poetry Event: Haiku Death Match *IN PERSON*
In person at Woodland Pattern.
A Haiku Death Match is a competitive poetry duel that is a subgenre of poetry slam. The original Haiku is a form of Japanese poetry consisting of 17 syllables in three metrical phrases of 5 syllables, 7 syllables, and 5 syllables. In this slam, we will take 17 syllables any which way they flow. Poets will read haikus head-to-head before judges in a tournament elimination. Poets should have at least 20 previously written haikus to compete. The winner of the competition will take home a $50 book certificate from Woodland Pattern!
Hosted by “Darlin” Nikki Janzen: poet, social justice educator, equity advocate, and Woman of the World Haiku Slam winner 2008.
Participants are encouraged to register in advance. Walk-ins are welcome; please arrive at 1:45 PM to sign up.
